On his Monday-night broadcast, Jimmy Kimmel pushed the implausible—and now thoroughly debunked—theory that the perpetrator was himself a MAGA supporter. Then, on Wednesday afternoon, FCC chair Brendan Carr insinuated that federal consequences might follow. By day’s end, ABC announced that Kimmel would be suspended indefinitely. Given the recent history of government-led censorship targeting the right, the instinct to flip the script is understandable—but is scoring political points worth risking our free-speech rights?
