Mamdani, Maduro, and the Crying Communist: New York Is Trying the Venezuela Model

New York City’s embrace of “democratic socialism” isn’t some bold new experiment. Mayor Zohran Mamdani is replaying a disaster we’ve seen a hundred times before. As Venezuelans celebrate the downfall of Nicolás Maduro, American protesters demonstrate a complete ignorance of what really happened under that regime. Newly appointed “tenant advocate” Cea Weaver’s plot to destroy home values and force collectivization echoes Venezuelan policies of the past—and we know how that turned out. The rhetoric is dressed up as compassion, equity, and justice, but the underlying logic is familiar: erode private property, centralize power, and leave citizens dependent on the state.
